OUR PROJECTS
THE BIOREGIONS | Where We Work
Kako Earth is deeply committed to supporting the legitimate aspirations of the Indigenous peoples of North, Central, and South America. From within their own territories, these communities are leading efforts to preserve, restore, and steward Sanctuaries of Life Plans that support the animals, waters, and sacred sites across their bioregions.
Amazonia Bioregion
Siekopai
In the Amazonia Bioregion, Kako Earth supports the Siekopai Nation in regenerating ancestral agroforestry systems through a ceremonial cacao initiative that restores forest ecosystems while strengthening cultural continuity. Alongside this, we are developing a plant medicine healing center rooted in Siekopai wisdom, where over 1,200 documented medicinal plants form the foundation for intergenerational learning, healing, and biocultural preservation.
Gonawindua Bioregion
Kogi
In Gonawindúa, the sacred territory of the Kogi people, we support Indigenous-led educational initiatives grounded in ancestral pedagogy and territorial guardianship. This includes strengthening intergenerational knowledge transmission and supporting elders and youth as they walk and protect sacred routes throughout the Sierra Nevada, maintaining balance between humanity and the natural world.
Kʼicheʼ Maya
Maya Bioregion
In the Maya Bioregion, Kako Earth works alongside Kʼicheʼ Maya spiritual leaders to revitalize ancestral ceremonies and restore the bridge between youth and elders through living ritual practice. In collaboration with the organization Itzat, we also support arts and cultural development initiatives that sustain Maya cosmology, language, and creative expression for future generations.
Coipolafquen Bioregion
Mapuche
In the Coipolafquen Bioregion, Kako Earth collaborates with Mapuche leaders in the reforestation of native medicinal and ecological plant species as an act of territorial healing. This work is accompanied by community-based advocacy for the Rights of Nature, reinforcing Indigenous sovereignty and restoring reciprocal relationships between land, water, and people.
Oglala Lakota
Mnisose Bioregion
In the Mnisose Bioregion, in partnership with Oglala Lakota leaders, we support the development of an ancestral healing center dedicated to cultural restoration and community well-being. This work includes collaboration with the Native American Church in the protection of sacred peyote traditions, as well as women-led healing gatherings that strengthen ceremony, identity, and collective resilience.
Aha Makhav BIOREGION
Havasupai
In the Aha Makhav Bioregion, we support watershed education and local advocacy efforts rooted in Indigenous stewardship of sacred waters. Our work includes standing alongside Native tribes in land back movements and initiatives that protect ancestral homelands, ensuring the continuity of cultural and ecological integrity for generations to come.
